Gender Determination
The cannabis sex test is a PCR-based assay targeting a region of the Y chromosome in the cannabis genome. With our test, the sex of a plant can be determined as early as one week after germination – all we need is one cotyledon from the seedling. This is particularly useful for breeders working with regular (non-feminized) seeds, as well as for plant breeders carrying out targeted selections and pollinations. Producers of feminized seeds can also use this test as certification to confirm feminization and to ensure that no contamination by pollen containing Y chromosomes has occurred. We have validated our assay on more than 100 individuals from different strains. However, a note of caution is advised – both for our test and for all comparable tests on the market: the absence of a Y chromosome does not represent a 100% guarantee against pollen production. It is important that the sampling is carried out according to our instructions. For invalid tests resulting from incorrectly taken samples, the costs must be borne by the customer.
